Broadcasting to the capital!

Saturday Morning (Day 7).

Amongst all of the hectic activities of hanging the exhibition and hosting our private view on Friday, we received a message that BBC Radio London were interested in interviewing us about the project on their Saturday breakfast programme.

So, myself and my fellow curator, Debbie Danelley set off very early on Saturday morning to head to Broadcasting House in Marylebone. It’s a good job we did as, when we reached the station at Hackney Wick, all of the trains into London were suspended. So, we quickly changed our plan and ordered an Uber. Thankfully, we still arrived in plenty of time.

We were interviewed around 8.25am by the husband and wife presenters, David and Carrie Grant, who will be well known to most people of a certain age in the UK. They were very friendly - when we entered the studio, there were hugs instead of handshakes and we were immediately put at ease.

The interview went well, once David Grant had got his pronunciation of Debbie’s last name right! We managed to get all of the info about the project and the one-day pop-up exhibition out and, within a flash, we were done and off to the cafe next to Broadcasting House for some well-deserved breakfast. Later in the day, a lady came up to us at the exhibition and said she’d heard the interview as she was driving out of London to Bromley, so she stopped, turned the car around and came back into town to visit us - how cool is that!
