We’re up and running!
After a long build up, Cecil and I finally met up with the fifteen collage artists in Hackney Wick, to get the London Collage Project underway. We met for a pre-start beer and food on Saturday evening (24th), which was a great way to informally introduce the group to each other. It was clear after just a fw minutes that we had an amazing group who were going to get on famously. Then on Sunday morning, the week started in earnest at Indra Studio, our home for the duration.
After an initial welcome and brief, some of the group who had a arrived a few days early and had already collected some collage materials, got stuck into their first collages. Others disappeared into town to check out the markets and second-hand book stores. In the studio, it was incredible to witness how, after a lively, chatty start to the morning, a calmness and quiet descended as the chat turned to creative concentration. The day finished with our first group crit which was hugely constructive - followed by a few beers and pizza.
Even after just one day, we were already seeing some amazing works emerge and a diversity of approaches and techniques. It’s going to be fascinating to see where we are at the end of the week! Here are a few pics from day one…
